I had bought my ticket in advance for San Marco and was able to really see and enjoy each mosaic, the Loggia, the altar, and the museum, and the amazing view from the bell tower. I took a round trip in the linea 1 vaporetto to see all of the Canale Grande and Lido late afternoon, certainly more economic than a tour and fascinating. Also to Torcello to see the medieval church with its amazing Byzantine inspired last judgement. The other days I visited a variety of the palazzi, Grimini, Ca’ d’oro, the Peggy Guggenheim (definitely over rated), the Byzantine icon Museum, the Correr, the exhibit on Carpaccio, the secreti tour of the Palazzo ducale, the Academia, plus a few churches…. read less

It’s a must thing to do when visiting Venice but to be honest it’s just a 20 min boat ride around the canal. The guide is someone who walks you to the gondola and gives you some perspective on the area and the gondolas and gondoliers. I’m giving it good ratings bc the price was right for an obligatory experience but you won’t be wowed. read less

She showed us many interesting and unusual things we would’ve probably missed if we haven’t had the tour.
The only problem is that our online QR code Venice Tours ticket didn’t include clear enough instructions or details that we don’t meet her outside Cathedral but somewhere else!!
We had to come to the Venice tours office to meet the group which isn’t that easy to find! So we missed our tour slot, but they kindly let us go an hour later, which we are very grateful for. read less

The water was really high and they were doing everything in their power to get us out on a gondola. But the experience itself was not the best because of the high tide.
Also we were on a boat with another couple and I presumed we’d have a boat to ourselves. So that was a little awkward.
The water was so high that they couldn’t go into any of the canals so we were all clustered together with about 30 other gondolas in the grand canal. We went out did a small loop and came right back.
Again, not their fault. But in my opinion it should have either been cancelled or postponed due to the uncommon water conditions.
The guide who led us to the entrance was very nice but we also got led on about a mile walk to find a place that was low enough to get in the gondolas.
Al in all, I think they did the best they could with the circumstances and I would recommend the company to others! But do be aware you’ll be in the boat with strangers. read less

Firstly our guide was brilliant and friendly explained everything as we were going round. Then he just started sing just one cornetto song which made our ride even more special. He was excellent and wish we got his name to give him a shout out. To top it off as he was singing he just said excuse me my mama ringing. And it was his mum on phone which was another highlight of our ride. We got on boat at the rialto bridge which cost us 80 euros. If you simply exit the St. Mark's square on the opposite side of the basilica there is a flag out that says gondola and representatives waiting to assign you a gondola. My only negative is that the commentary is only on the land. When you're on the boat there is no commentary so there was no one to point areas of interest. Go to the news stand in St Mark’s Square. There isn’t one it’s through the arch under the piazza at the far end and yes it’s between Fendi and Italian post office.
You can only redeem tickets on the day. So trying to be prepared doesn’t happen.
Arriving on the day, paperwork was available however redeeming the audio guide was a real faff. Hence my concern over those less tech able being able to benefit from this.
The guide is good but doesn’t follow the flow for the Palace trip.
The actual Doge Palace is very impressive and a most do Venice visit. read less

Challenging to find the stand to redeem online vouchers for tickets, instructions appear clear however it is a busy place and the ‘stand’ was not obvious.
It’s also not clear who you are traveling with or the departure point.
I found the boat and depart point through luck or we would have missed the trip.
The itinerary for the tour is good and well worth the visit.
It would be beneficial however to have an itinerary to confirm how long the stay on each island is to allow time for refreshments/ lunch which would fit perfectly if we had been told before hand.
For added excitement thread passengers were left at the second island and had to catch up the tour by private water taxi.
The islands, are well worth the trip. Glass blowing demo on Murano interesting but as usual exit via the gift shop.
In sum good but could be improved with better communication and easier ticket collection. read less

Once we arrived we were asked to choose a mask and asked to choose colours, we got told the history of the Venetian masks which was very interesting.
Its nice to have a break and get away from the hustle of Venice in this small workshop, there are also some amazing masks you can purchase from the shop.
The shop was still open to the public which at times was a little irritating as we were trying to listen to the history and had to stop while customers came in, the workshop is small so can only really fit a few people inside so its a bit awkward when the public comes in and you are sitting there on a tour.
Overall this is a great place to visit and we were both really pleased with our masks, make sure to ask for glaze over the top for an extra 2 euros it makes all the difference! This is suitable for adults and children of all ages. read less

Sara the tour guide (a Venetian native) did an incredible job - she was extremely kind and educated. She provided the the first half of the tour (a walking guided tour that gave a brief history of Venice and the historical significance of gondolas). Not only did she share a lot of information, but she did it fluently in 2 different languages (English and Spanish).
The gondola ride was a nice and leisurely, and just the right amount of time you'd want to spend in a boat (I think any longer than 30 minutes starts to be a bit too much). Awesome experience, highly recommend. read less

We passed by huge lines to enter the Doge’s Palace and the fantastic Basilica. He was a great story teller and has a fantastic speaking voice which was quite entertaining to listen to. He was able to answer our questions and provide recommendations for the rest of our stay. My only suggestion would be to pick the pace up a little bit, during a short tour like this you'd like to get around Venice and see as much as possible in a short time. Francesco liked to take his time and really elaborate on certain points that may not have been the most helpful. Overall a good tour and I recommend it if you're short on time. read less

Good cost-benefit. The guide was funny and friendly, but I think he could speak a little bit slower. We had some interesting commentaries about the gondoliers and other historic details through the walk. but no commentaries on the gondola. Sometimes we could not listen to him properly, as the radio cut off. The gondola ride was about 15-20 minutes and I think it could be a bit more, exploring a larger extension of the canals. read less

However read the description as the tour involves a lot of stairs, some people were unable to complete the tour, as a result.
One issue that I can't fault the tour guide for was people having conversation and missing key points of information, then asking questions that had already been answered.
A number a people attempted to listen in on the tour, which was aggravating, as the tour wasn't cheap. But the guide politely informed them it was a private tour, once she spotted them.

We booked the skip-the-line tickets from Venice Tours including a colorful guide.
Upon arrival, there was indeed a big queue but I think the additional fee we had to pay to skip the line was too high.
We had to wait in line for the booth to pick up our tickets. It stated on the website we would receive a brochure. The lady at the booth informed us we could either get a brochure or use an online app. Unfortunately, we didn't know we had this option so make sure you have phones for everyone including earphones (we didn't) plus a charger because the app drains your battery. Make sure you download the app immediately next to the booth in order to benefit from the wifi. The app itself offered quite interesting background information. In the palace there are signs but they only give limited information (different from the app).
We enjoyed visiting it on our own. read less

There is no physical guide. You download the commentary on to your cellphone and activate each audio when in the right place. The audios were not in a proper sequence so it took a while to know which to use. Once properly located they told a story the observer would be much the poorer for not knowing.
"Skip the queue" was an advantage because the queues were long.
As a bonus there was also a Venice panorama commentary which was useful while wondering this wonderful city.
The trip is appropriately priced for what you get. read less

He (Francisco) did a good job of telling interesting stories and waiting until we were all together so everyone could hear him. My only issue is that he tended to march ahead without looking back to see if we were following. In one case, he was at least 50 feet ahead of the closest guest and two others were far back. He needs to check more frequently to let the pokey people catch up. read less

Peaceful and charming I booked a gondola trip at sunset and that’s what I received, i would agree with other reviews that it... read moreI booked a gondola trip at sunset and that’s what I received, i would agree with other reviews that it may be more cost effective to buy on the day from a reputable stall. As the price I paid was well above the €100 for an evening slot which was offered on the day.
I was also asked as soon as I got in the gondola, if I wanted to pay €50 more to go under the Rialto bridge, which we declined, obviously, as that is extortionate on top of the already paid price.
However, due to the weather and forecast thunder, our gondola ride was cut short about 25mins long in total. Because of this I requested a partial refund, of which I then received a few days later. Which made me feel a lot better about the experience.
This basically meant in the end I still paid over the nose for the experience, but unlike most I did obtain useful information about the surroundings from the gondolier, and he did seem more capable than many others on the canal. For example, no queuing, crashing or sharp turns, and due to the quieter route the boat didn’t rock as much as we saw others do on the grand canal.
All in all, if you want a quiet romantic ride down the small intimate canals and the grand canal, then this is for you. But this ride does not include any major tourist destinations, and is 30mins not 30-45 as described. read less
